A Content Marketing Strategy for Retail

When I wrote on content marketing previously I knew it was something that I had to look into on a deeper level for my children’s footwear store.  Andy Stack of You Tube offers this advice “it’s important for retailers to develop a content marketing strategy and not necessarily an advertising strategy, and sponsor content that matters to your community and spend money to promote content that’s tested and works”. There are more people looking on line now than ever before, some buying but most researching. So it makes sense to move away from ‘advertising’ and offer real content that the buyers can use to base their decisions on. And if you have provided that information, then it must be your business that they would look to first when actually purchasing.

Now, after reading another article I have a content marketing strategy example for retail, well for my retail business actually. It’s not perfect, but it is real and not hype, so I hope that comes through.

Firstly, I made the you tube channel foot forward shoes and am working on adding short video reviews of new stock coming into the store. It’s the end of the summer selling season here and so we are moving forward into winter which means the stock is starting to flow in. As I am updating the new stock on to my website Foot Forward Shoes I am embedding a video into the actual product pages.

Here’s one of the videos so far:

And here  is the link to the actual product page:

http://footforward.co.nz/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=899

There is certainly room for improvement, the production quality is pretty low, but it’s helpful content that I’m aiming for. I want to show is what the shoe is all about, on not pushing the selling aspect. Oh and I will have to add more text to the product description on the website.

Apart from giving useful (hopefully) information to my potential customers, You Tube videos have a ‘Search Engine Optimization” spin off.  By having my You Tube channel, which links to my website, I now have my website linking into my You Tube Channel which therefore means more credibility. This is something that the SEO experts say is going to lift my rankings in searches, well, as long as I have entered the correct keywords.

My hope is that you also find this content marketing strategy example useful so that you can apply in your small business.
